The Weavers Story
Lucy and Ellen Begay, mother and daughter are traditional Navajo weavers. Weaving is a centering activity and an expression of a balanced life around them. Their textiles of extraordinary beauty and complexity and both a personal accomplishments and a testament to an important heritage.
The complicated interconnected graphic patterns pulse with an ever changing geometric that shifts easily between foreground and background radiating with earthly luminosity. In their weaving both Lucy and Ellen push these geometric variations and strive to create "something different" with each piece; drawing inspiration from the environment around them. Their work is a metaphoric reference and interpretation of their environment around them.
